El Peñol de Guatapé: Rock that Rises from Water

El Peñol de Guatapé is travelers must when you are visiting Medellín. It is located around 86 km northeast of the city and the bus ride does not take more than 2 hours.

It is a monolith, there is no other such a strange big kind of black rock around. You have to climb up around 650 steps to get on the top of the rock (we met a guy carrying big package of soft drinks on his shoulders for the bar on the top) and have a 360 degree view all around beautiful lake (actually it is a hydroelectric dam). Yes, this magnifique strange rock rises from constructed water dam. How did the rock appear there? I haven’t done any deep scientific research, maybe it was mighty Pachamama (Mother Earth) that brought the monolith over there to push people questioning about nature power. Who knows.
