China: Beijing in 4 days

Golden week is Chinese long national holiday starting on October 1st and ending on October 5th when most of Chinese people travel around; so I did. I left my Changle-Fuzhou base and spent 9 days traveling starting in Beijing and then going south to Shanghai and Hangzhou.

Crowdy train station in Fuzhou and bed seat in the train:

Day 1: Tiananmen Square and Beijing’s hutongs

Tiananmen Square, the biggest square in the world and the heart of Beijing city, was the first place we visited. In the night we went to hutongs, typical traditional Beijing’s areas.

Day 2: October 1st is the worst day to visit Beijing

October 1st is the worst day to visit Beijing because long national holiday starts and many official political ceremonies take place in the city, especially on Tiananmen Square and many top monuments are closed for public. Moreover it was raining all the time we were there; our couchsurfing host Bruce borrowed us some jackets and we (Kasia and me) bought same shoes at the street. In the night we visited Olympic area.

This place was forbidden for public almost 500 years; now it is one of the top Beijing’s attraction, also listed as UNESCO World Heritage site.
